What goes in blue box/bag

The blue box is for your dry recycling. Please rinse items to ensure they are as clean as possible and place all items loose in the box- do not put them inside carrier bags.

Items that go in the blue box are:

  • glass bottles and jars
  • plastic bottles only
  • food and drinks cans
  • tins and aerosols
  • pet food cans and tins
  • biscuits tins

Items that DO NOT go in the blue box include:

  • trays of any sort
  • yoghurt pots or tubs
  • broken glass
  • pyrex
  • window and mirror glass
  • glass milk bottles
  • drinking glasses
  • foil
  • paint cans
  • cartons (tetra pak style)

If you do use an extra box for your recycling, please can you ensure that glass is put in one container and plastic bottles and cans are put in the other. If you do not sort any additional boxes, then they may not be collected.

Items that go in the blue bag are:

  • paper
  • white or grey card (plain or printed) e.g. cereal boxes, tea bag boxes, frozen food boxes
  • health and beauty packaging e.g. tissue boxes, tooth paste boxes, medicine boxes
  • newspapers
  • magazines
  • office paper
  • telephone directories
  • yellow pages
  • envelopes (including window)
  • greeting cards
  • catalogues
  • leaflets
  • junk mail
  • All card needs to be flattened and must fit inside the bag.

Items that DO NOT go in the blue bag include:

  • brown cardboard
  • brown paper
  • delivery boxes and padded postal bags
  • egg boxes
  • cartons (tetra pak style)
  • wrapping paper
  • plastic film
  • plastic wrappers
  • kitchen and toilet rolls
  • beer, soft drink and wine boxes
  • washing powder and dishwasher tablet boxes
  • pet food boxes
